Need a drummer:

Every month Pro-drum puts on a night in the centre of Birmingham aimed at giving people the chance to play drums with a live band in front of an audience. Although this is aimed at our students, everyone is invited, even if you’re not a drummer, there’s plenty going on and you’re guaranteed a night to remember! ‘Need a drummer’ gives opportunity to people of all ages to get out of the practice room and rock out! We have regular rockstar wannabes from the ages of 5 up to 75, and although it’s sometimes nerve-racking at first, you’ll find your confidence growing and growing. Come down and give it a go! More details of when Need a Drummer is on can be found on our calendar page.

African Percussion workshops:

Hailing from Cameroon, Steve Yimga has been playing the Djembe ever since he can remember, and now he travels all over the country performing, giving workshops and spreading his infectious groove in his own inimitable style.

Steve has now hooked up with Pro-drum to offer African percussion workshops to people in the Midlands area. The workshops include hands on learning, technique, rhythm recollection, clapping exercises, team-building, fun games and much more.

Steve can cater for group numbers ranging from 5 to 500+ and his workshops are available to Schools, community centres, business team-building events, arts events and one-off performances.

Steve is also currently touring with his own band Crossroad Collision – an exciting fusion of Afro-jazz rhythms and Poetry. Please direct all enquiries about Steve’s workshops to enquiries@pro-drum.com and check the calendar for all up-coming shows and performances.

Workplace workshops

New for 2006!

‘Workplace workshops’ are aimed specifically at businesses that want to strengthen working relationships amongst staff and to re-energise the working environment.

We understand that a good ‘team’ ethic is the key to achieving a happy, efficient workplace. In our ‘rhythm world’ percussion workshop, we emphasise that the individual has the power to participate, contribute and ultimately to influence the team as a whole.

We highlight Dynamics as a fundamental learning outcome of our workshops – not only in a musical sense (Loud, soft etc) but in a group sense as well. Encouragement is given to participants to find their place in the group dynamic and to stretch away from their normal boundaries.

No previous experience of playing drums is required and it’s so accessible and fun, people find they can pick it up in no time, although concentration is needed to make the groove really happen!

  • Easy – Anyone can make a sound with a drum, and, with facilitation, everyone can play a simple rhythm, (for example "We Will Rock You" or the "Football Clap" performed at football matches around the country), so with relatively little effort and time a group of completely inexperienced players can sound like a powerful tribal drum group.
  • Rhythm - Drumming empowers a team to do things they never would have thought possible, bringing unity to a group whilst bringing out its humanity. Rhythm is the foundation of language and communication – the world moves in rhythm, and it is at the core of all life. Rhythm is inherent in everyone, yet people rarely have the chance to express it individually or collectively. We give individuals a powerful, enthralling and highly energising opportunity to do just that.
  • Concentration – Music helps tune in the mind, enabling full concentration and attention. We help people to forget their current concerns and anxieties, enhancing their ability to focus on the ensuing programme. A quick burst of activity and rhythm between speakers or presentations can help individuals to re-focus, whilst at the same time invigorating and enthusing them, creating a more positive attitude towards the content of the conference or event.

Our drumming workshops are Inspirational, entertaining, highly motivating and stress relieving.
